When calculating international shipping, we partners (like DHL, UPS, FedEx and DPD) use a standard industry measurement called Chargeable Weight.
To ensure you get an accurate estimate on the Pricing Page, you must understand how this weight is determined.
The Two Types of Weight
The "Chargeable Weight" used to calculate your invoice is always the greater of these two values:
Actual Weight: The physical weight of the package when placed on a scale (measured in kg or lbs).
Volumetric (Dimensional) Weight: A calculation that reflects the amount of space a package occupies. This ensures that large, lightweight items (like a box of pillows) are priced fairly compared to small, heavy items (like a box of books)
The Calculation Formula
To find the volumetric weight of your parcel, forward2me (and major partners like DHL) uses the industry-standard formula:
How to Lower Your Costs
If your package "volumes out" (meaning the volumetric weight is higher than the actual weight), you can use forward2me's Combine and Repack service.
What it does: Their team opens your packages and places the items into the smallest possible box or removes unnecessary air/padding.
Why it helps: By reducing the box dimensions, you lower the volumetric weight, which can significantly drop your final shipping price.
Key Concepts on the Pricing Page
When using the Quote tool, keep these terms in mind:
Chargeable Weight: This is the final number used for your quote.
Available Weight: If a courier has the same price for any weight between 5 kg and 10 kg, and your package is 7 kg, you have 3 kg of "Available Weight." This means you could add more items to your shipment without increasing the shipping cost.
Multi-piece Shipments: Some couriers allow you to send multiple boxes as one shipment, which can be cheaper than sending them individually. We can allow 15 multi piece for some couriers.
| Courier Service | Multi-Piece Allowed? | Max Pieces | Best Use Case |

| UPS Express | Yes | 15* | Fast global delivery for bundles. |
| UPS Standard | No | 1 | Economy ground shipping (Europe). |
| DPD | No | 1 | Bulky/light items (no volume charge). |
